Guide
How to measure your book
Three measurements, two minutes, and your book cover will be cut to the millimetre. Take them with the book closed and lying flat, in centimetres.
You need a soft tape measure — or, failing that, a piece of string and a ruler.
Step 1
The height
From the top to the bottom of the book, in a straight line, with the tape laid flat against the cover.
Step 2
The width
On the front cover, from the spine to the edge of the cover.
Step 3
The thickness
From one cover to the other, across the spine. Depending on your book:
Rounded spine : Run the tape measure around the spine, following its curve.
Flat spine : Simply measure the width of the spine with a ruler, from one cover to the other.
Our tips
- Give the exact measurements of your book: the atelier adds the ease needed for making it.
- For the thickness, let the tape measure follow the spine without pulling on it: pulled too tight, it would give a measurement that is too short.
- Don’t round: note the millimetres (21.4 cm rather than 21 cm), for the closest possible fit.
- Unsure? Write to us before ordering, telling us the title and edition of the book: we will help you check.
